This is a MUST. You have to try this recipe because it actually delicious, not one of those super healthy concoctions that you force down for the benefits, this latte actually tastes super good PLUS loaded with health benefits.

I am always looking for ways to incorporate turmeric into my diet because of all of its incredible health properties. I read about turmeric everywhere so I am all for new recipes that have turmeric in them that actually taste delicious and I enjoy.

If you are unfamiliar with turmeric, it is a staple spice very common in Indian cuisine and has been used as holistic medicine and in many popular dishes such as curry. People in India become strong believers in the turmeric roots healing and protective properties that they started to produce and supply it. Now India produces 80% of the worlds turmeric root. It has a unique, bright, yellow colour, and has been nicknamed “Golden Spice” and “Indian Saffron”. It has a really unique aroma and strong flavour as well. It will stain pretty much everything it touches btw, if you cook with it you will have a yellow pan afterwards.

The most amazing thing about this spice, are the many benefits it gives to our bodies. Turmeric contains about 100 chemical compounds including a powerful polyphenol called circumin which gives turmeric its bright yellow colour. Polyphenols like circumin are known to have anti-inflammatory properties and can treat respiratory illnesses, stomach aches and there is research showing circumin may even help prevent cancer.

Some more on the specific benefits of eating turmeric include:

1. Reduces the risk of Cancer

With turmerics high amount of antioxidants, it supports the bodies natural immunity to oxidative changes, which contributes to cancers growth and progression. Turmeric combats chronic inflammation in the body as well which is a known contributor to the development of cancer. Studies have shown that eating only about a tbsp of turmeric a day can kill off cancer cells and protect our mind and bodies from developing it. Pretty powerful stuff I tell ya.

2. Provides natural anti-inflammatory agents

As mentioned earlier, the chemical compounds in turmeric such as circumin, combined with vitamins and minerals that support your bodies natural immunity against fighting inflammation. In order to fight inflammation, you can either consume turmeric orally or topically, and it will reduce inflammation on the inside and outside. You can dissolve powdered turmeric into a bit of water, dip a cloth into it, and do compressions on the site of swelling on the skin which provides immediate or long lasting relief from inflammation. This can be applied to sprains, muscle soreness/ache, joint inflammation such as arthritis, and just general aches and pains!

3. Balances Hormone Levels

Hormones are involved in like every process that takes place in the brain and the body and are super important to support a variety of life functions like digestion, muscle contractions, sleep, mood, etc. Turmeric supplies a large amount of nutritive support to the bodies natural hormone production process. It cleanses the blood  of any toxins, delivers phytochemicals directly to the brain, regulates and supports the health of all organs involved in hormone production. Turmeric improves the overall immunity of the body by supplying phytonutrients that prevents illness, disease and mutations that can hinder hormone production.

4. Promotes Fat Loss

Turmeric is involved in many functions that contribute to increased fat burning such as increasing metabolism, regulates blood sugar levels, regulates hormone production and levels (including cortisol and other fat-retaining hormones), improves communication between digestive system and the brain to ensure feelings of satiety are experienced appropriately. So when you add about a tbsp of turmeric a day to your diet you may find benefits such as food being properly digestion, more energy, feelings of fullness come easier (meaning you won’t overeat and stuff your face), annnnd calorie burn rates are higher. So not only does it improve fat loss, it will improve your digestive system as well!

5. Cleanses your Liver

So as you may know, your livers main job is to cleanse your body of any toxins, pollutants and irritants so it plays a really big role in maintaining your body overall health and immunity. If your liver is overwhelmed  with toxins and all these things it cant function properly and can cause detrimental consequences to your body. Turmeric, with a combination of a healthy lifestyle can actually reverse damage done to the liver improving its health and productivity. Also, turmerics phytochemicals (circumin), are powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents as I mentioned previously, that help cleanse the liver and the body.

6. May reduce your risk of Alzheimers

This is not a proven fact but there has been plenty of research done on turmeric and how it effects brain health. the mechanism behind this study involves the blood-brain barrier which is an extremely selective permeable barrier that separates the circulating blood from brain fluid in the nervous system. So this barrier basically blocks anything that will cause harm and interrupt the normal function of the brain or nerves. This barrier is so specific that it doesn’t even allow medicinal therapies to cross through and help the brain. BUT when you consume Turmeric, it allows circumin to be absorbed directly into the sites of the brain in need, crossing that barrier. Therefore, it will fight areas in the brain where theres inflammation, infection or anything else that contributes to the defamation associated with Alzheimers disease.

Even though its never to late to heal your body and give it the right tools to fight diseases, diseases like Alzheimers start progressing at a young age, so I would recommend incorporating turmeric into your diet today!
